View On GoogleThe Importance of Orthodontics
Orthodontic treatment can provide many oral health benefits to both younger patients and adults. By closing the spaces between teeth, pockets between gums and teeth are minimized, reducing the risk of plaque buildup, cavities, and periodontal disease. Orthodontics can also help the jaws to meet properly, preventing damage such as uneven wear, breaking, and chipping.
A misaligned bite can leave you or your child at a higher risk for injury due to protruding teeth. It can also affect digestion and nutrition because it can interfere with your ability to chew properly. By trusting your orthodontic care to a specialist, you and your family can experience maximum treatment benefits.
Is There an Age Limit
for Orthodontic Treatment?
While a lot of our patients are children, it is never too late to straighten your teeth, improve your oral health, and achieve the smile you've always dreamed of. Another 5-Star Rating From a Satisfied Patient
"Amazing staff and a perfect smile at the end. We are so happy with our experience." Brady Mann
Braces
Traditional braces rely on metal brackets and wires to move teeth into the proper position. This treatment option is typically recommended for patients with complex bite issues or moderate to severe misalignment.
We also offer ceramic braces that use clear brackets to make treatment more discreet while providing the same level of bite correction.
For both types of braces, we use an advanced wire with greater elasticity than the traditional hardware. This results in a more comfortable treatment that only requires a checkup every six weeks.

Invisalign
A favorite among teens and adults, the Invisalign system uses a series of clear aligners that are worn in sequence to achieve a straighter smile. Invisalign offers a number of benefits over traditional orthodontic options. The aligners are nearly invisible, offer greater comfort, and because they are removable, you can still eat all of your favorite foods.
Invisalign does have limitations as to the amount of correction it can offer and may not be the best option for patients with severe misalignment.
Depending on your needs, our orthodontist can provide Invisalign treatment that is not only more comfortable, but is approximately 25% more effective than the standard approach.

Not Sure Which Treatment Option Is Right for You? We Will Help You Explore Your Options
Everyone has unique orthodontic needs, and it is impossible to tell which treatment is best for you without an initial consultation first. During this visit, one of our orthodontists will examine your mouth and determine the best orthodontic option that fits your budget and lifestyle while meeting your goals.

Does Orthodontic Treatment Hurt?
Traditional wire braces can be slightly uncomfortable as you adjust to wearing them. The first few days after an adjustment to your braces can also cause some discomfort. Patients sometimes use orthodontic wax to help soothe any areas of irritation.
Invisalign can also be uncomfortable to wear at first. There may be some soreness as your mouth adjusts to the aligners, but your orthodontists will check to make sure the aligners do not rub against your gums. Our orthodontists will work with you to minimize any discomfort. You can take over-the-counter medication to help manage any pain as you adjust to a new aligner.
If you experience significant pain for long periods of time, contact our greater San Antonio, TX, offices immediately so we can examine your gums and teeth.

The Cost of Treatment
Orthodontics is usually considered a practical treatment, and most dental insurance plans cover at least part of the cost. Hulme Orthodontics & Dentofacial Orthopedics will work with your insurance provider so you can get the maximum coverage allowed by your plan.
Patients can budget for out-of-pocket expenses through our interest-free in-house financing, which requires no credit check. We also provide financing through CareCredit®, a third-party lender.
Factors affecting treatment costs include the type of treatment used, the number of office visits, finishing retainers, and other tools used to improve the alignment of your teeth. If cost is a concern for you, talk to our orthodontists and staff today. We would be glad to help you find a way to make orthodontics fit your budget.
How to Get the Best Results
Good Oral Hygiene
It is important to continue brushing twice and flossing at least once each day throughout your treatment. Our orthodontists can show you how to properly care for your teeth and gums if you're wearing traditional braces.
Avoid Certain Foods
Sticky and hard foods like bubblegum, popcorn, and certain meats can be problematic for patients wearing traditional braces. It is important that you do not eat foods that can bend the wires of your braces or make cleaning especially difficult.
Wear a Retainer After Treatment
Following your orthodontic treatment, it is important to wear a retainer to keep your teeth properly aligned. Usually, patients wear a retainer overnight.
Hear More From Our Happy Texas Patients 5-Star Reviews
I've been seeing Dr. Hulme for 3 years and I have now been to all 4 locations. I recently moved to 2.5 hrs away in the middle of my treatment and still travel every 3-4 weeks for follow-ups because he is just that wonderful. He and his staff are by far, THE BEST!!!! They are patient, understanding, and genuinely caring individuals. The only downfall, they aren't a dental hygienist office because I'd come to have my teeth cleaned here as well. I LOVE THESE PEOPLE!!!
View on GoogleWe went in for a consult and were up front about the fact that we're moving in a year and weren't sure if we should get started now or after we move. We were given a thorough explanation of the treatment needed, as well as a variety of options for starting immediately or waiting and what each option would entail since not all adult teeth are in place. We left well-informed, including suggestions outside the direct treatment plan that will be helpful in our future ortho planning.
